Art and culture of Salamanca

Salamanca is one of the cities of Spain with more enchantment. Called "Little Rome" to be based between various hills, the city is the cradle of the Spanish plateresque Renaissance, thanks to the characteristic stone of Villamayor, easy to work with. Its golden tonality is very suggestive, a beautiful color when the rays of the sun are reflected in building facades.

Salamanca is probably more well-known by having the oldest University of Spain and one of oldest in Europe. And it is this student tradition the one that still gives a so special atmosphere that any student of Spanish courses in Salamanca will notice immediately.

Its historical quarter has conserved intact its architectonic purity. For that reason UNESCO declared the city Patrimony of the Humanity in 1988.

Most of the streets are made for pedestrians, like the popular Toro and Zamora, filled with stores, bars and animation. These streets will take you directly to the neuralgic center of the city: the Plaza Mayor.

You can feel the religious atmosphere of the city visiting its convents and cathedrals, entering the monumental "House of the Shells", visiting the facade of the University looking for its famous frog or you can take away an unforgettable memory of the "Casa Lis" or a romantic walk in Calixto and Melibea Garden.
